Hydrogen vs Liquid — my experience

As a full-stack developer invested in React and Next.js, headless commerce is exciting. I've worked extensively with both Liquid and Hydrogen.

Liquid: The Reliable Workhorse

Server-side rendered by Shopify — no hosting worries.

• Pros: Fast setup, works with all Shopify apps
• Cons: Hard for complex UIs, messy Liquid/HTML mix

Hydrogen: The Modern Powerhouse

Built on Remix, React front-end with Storefront API.

• Pros: Infinite flexibility, animations, component reuse
• Cons: Lose app compatibility, build custom integrations

My Verdict

Don't jump to Hydrogen just for React. For standard stores with marketing apps, Liquid is still king.

For unique, app-like experiences and top-tier performance, Hydrogen is worth the learning curve.
